We are proud to announce that Cardboard Citizens’ Ambassador, Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet, will be hosting our bi-annual Fundraising Dinner on the 19th of March, 2011 at Christ Church Spitalfields. Proceeds raised through ticket prices, sponsorship and an auction will go towards securing the company a much needed new home. We aim to better our inaugural dinner event which Kate Winslet hosted in 2008 at the Mandarin Oriental and raised over £100,000.
Christ Church Spitalfields is amongst the finest examples of baroque architecture in London. Inspired by our surroundings, this year’s dinner is under the theme of ‘Baroque = Rough Pearl’. 'Baroque' comes from the Portuguese barroco, which means rough or mis-shapen pearl. A natural pearl is formed in an oyster as a way of dealing with an irritant – the formation of the pearl is a reaction to the irritant. Pearls can also be cultivated, these are cultured pearls. This evening will feature some investigations by the company of what rough and cultured pearls are to be found amongst the Cardboard Citizens. We can’t wait. It is shaping to be an unforgetable evening.
